Top Hat Formal Wear recommends that all members of the party be measured at least 2 weeks before the event. We accommodate people every week who need same day service, but do not recommend this for a wedding or quinceañera, unless of course it is an emergency.
What is the process for renting a Tuxedo?
We try to make this process as simple as possible.
- Come in to the store and choose a style.
- Get measured and leave a down payment/deposit of $20.00
- We will set an appointment for your return 2-3 days before the event.
- You try on the outfit. If all is to your liking and ours, you pay the remaining balance and take the tuxedo. If an additional alteration needs to be made, we do it on the spot, and you still take the tuxedo 2-3 days before the event.
- If more than one additional alteration needs to be made we will have your tuxedo ready to retry by 10AM the following morning (or by appointment).
- The tuxedo would be due the Monday following the event, and can be returned by anyone in the party.
What are my options should I be unavailable to make it to the store for measuring?
We offer an out-of-town mail measurement form on this site that explains the measurements needed to reserve a tuxedo. You can download it and take it to your nearest tuxedo store and they will fill it in for you. Most tuxedo stores have this form on hand and will be happy to fill it out for you. It may or may not be complimentary and you may want to call ahead, as we have heard of $25.00 fitting fees in rural areas.
(It takes 3-5 minutes to measure for a tuxedo from start to finish)

What is the return policy on Tuxedo Rentals?
We ask that the tuxedo and accessories are returned on Monday following the date of us, unless arrangements are made in advance to keep the tuxedo for a longer rental period.
Can I make arrangements to return my Tuxedo at a later date?
Yes, we offer extended rentals for out of town events and for cruises. Generally speaking, extended rentals can come with additional accessory items and a garment bag.
Can your staff offer helpful suggestions based on the time of year, date and time of our event?
- Our staff is trained to take every detail of your event into consideration when helping you plan your event. Even though we specialize in men’s formal wear, we will have many questions about your entire event to insure the most appropriate style for the big day.
- Examples of the questions we will ask are as follows:
- Is the event indoors or out? Day or night?
- Is the train on the brides dress a cathedral length, chapel length or no train? Is the dress white or ivory?
- Does the groom have a preference for a bowtie or a necktie? Are the guys in the wedding party big or small? Tall or short?
- What is the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses? Do you have a swatch of the material?
- Is the wedding early morning? Is it in town or out of town?
How soon after getting my measurements taken can I expect to pick-up my tuxedo?
Top Hat Formal Wear developed Express Fittings, which allow for tuxedos to be tried on and picked up several days in advance for the same price. Normally, our Express Fittings occur two or three days before the date of the event and are essentially appointments made only for you at a particular time. We have a seamstress on the ready for any alterations and complete the fitting process and any alterations in about 15 minutes. At this point you are ready for your event.
Are shoes included with the cost of my estimate?
At Top Hat Formal Wear, we believe a complete tuxedo includes patent leather shoes (and black dress socks) and a coordinating pocket square that matches the vest and tie. It hardly makes sense to wear an elegant tuxedo, but wear a pair of old dress shoes (unless you have orthopedic issues). Because of this, each tuxedo price at Top Hat Formal Wear includes the shoes and socks (socks you keep) and a coordinating pocket square with your vest and tie.
Do you offer sizes that accommodate larger/taller builds?
Yes, we offer coat sizes in the store to a 70L and pant sizes in the store to a 61 waist pant, and a 7X shirt. We have fit everyone who wanted a tuxedo without exception, but we need at least a week to order larger sizes.
If rented in a large group, can any discounts/bargains be expected?
Top Hat Formal Wear offers a free tuxedo for every sixth paid tuxedo. The combination of our unsurpassed customer service, the overall value on complete tuxedo pricing, and the added benefit of receiving several free tuxedos, is why the largest events in Tucson are handled by Top Hat Formal Wear.
